Breath of Fresh Air

I’m back in Istanbul after a MUCH needed trip to the States. I was unable to return home for Christmas/New Years due to the schedule and that was unbelievably difficult! I never get overwhelmingly homesick, but I was definitely showing a few symptoms and a journey home was the perfect cure.  Don’t get me wrong – I love basketball, enjoy my job and living in turkey a great deal, but living so far away from most of my friends and family always leaves me anxiously awaiting a reunion with everyone. There happened to be a short mid-season break that allowed time for me to get back to my loved ones and recharge my batteries so to speak.

I was able to clear my head and spend time in familiar surroundings with the people that support me. Everyone was excited to spend time with me because it seems like its been an eternity since the last time. That excitement fuels me throughout the whole trip and I try not to let things like jetlag (it’s a long flight home!!) prevent me from soaking up quality time. Catching up with everyone that I want to in a short time often proves to be an impossible feat, although I was able to see many familiar faces and had an incredible time on my visit.

I always feel so much more focused after a visit home and this is a great time to be focused. We have some European competitions rapidly approaching and our schedule becomes much more difficult this half of the season. I am really looking forward to the higher level of competition and the greater stakes. Everything in my routine (training, diet, rest, etc.) is gearing towards being prepared for these games and I really want to do everything I can to help my team have a successful end to the season. Sometimes all you need is that breath of fresh air to put you right back where you need to be. My breath of fresh air is all of the people I love. Thanks for all of your support!
